Buying across countries

8 min read

Your filters' zones decide which listings you see; your accounts' countries decide which of them you can buy. What each account country can buy from, three worked examples, and the limits Vinted adds between countries.

Two checks stand between a listing and a purchase, and they are not the same check. The zones of the filter decide which listings reach your feed. The countries of your Vinted accounts decide which of those listings one of your accounts can buy. A listing has to pass both, in that order.

From a listing to a purchase
  1. The listing
Its country is the seller's country.
  2. Your filter's zones
Is the seller's country in a zone the filter has ticked? If not, the listing never reaches your feed.
  3. Your accounts
Is one of your accounts from a country Vinted lets buy from the seller's? Kops picks one, for this listing.
  4. The purchase
Made with that account, and shipped to its address.

Zones decide what you see

A filter compares one thing with the zones you ticked: the seller's country. Not your accounts' countries, and not the Vinted site you browse — Geographic zones lists what each zone holds.

So a listing the Vinted app shows you can be missing from your Kops feed. The Vinted UK app lists sellers from the United States and Australia; a filter with only United Kingdom ticked does not, because those sellers are in North America and Australia.

Account countries decide who can buy

Each Vinted account has the country it was registered in — the flag beside it on /accounts. Vinted lets an account buy from its own country and from a fixed list of others, and Kops follows the same list.

You never tie an account to a zone. Whenever a listing is bought — by autocop, or with a tap on Buy — Kops picks the account for that listing, among yours whose country can buy from the seller's. One filter can watch several countries: each listing goes to an account that can buy it.

The United Kingdom, the United States and Australia

🇦🇺 AustraliaAustralia, United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is the hub: a British account buys from all three countries, with no American or Australian account beside it. An American account cannot buy from Australia, nor an Australian one from the United States.

Europe

No account buys from one European zone to the other, nor between Europe and the United Kingdom. Within a zone, not every country reaches every other: an Austrian account cannot buy from Belgium.

Three examples

British accounts buying in the US and Australia

One filter has United Kingdom, North America and Australia ticked. Every account is British.

A listing from the United States
  1. The listing
A seller in the United States lists a Nike hoodie.
  2. Your filter's zonesPasses
North America is ticked: the listing reaches your feed.
  3. Your accountsPasses
A British account can buy from the United States: Kops picks one of yours.
  4. The purchasePasses, with a caveat
Made with the British account, within the limits Vinted sets between countries (below).

The same filter's Australian listings take the same road, through the same British accounts. No American or Australian account is needed.

A zone left unticked

The same British accounts, but the filter has only United Kingdom ticked.

The same listing, a filter on the United Kingdom alone
  1. The listing
The same hoodie, from the same American seller — the Vinted UK app shows it.
  2. Your filter's zonesStops here
North America is not ticked: the listing never reaches your feed.
  3. Your accountsNever reached
Never asked — though a British account could have bought it.

The fix is in the filter, not in your accounts: tick North America and Australia on the filters whose listings you want from there.

One feed, two countries

The filters have West Europe and United Kingdom ticked. You have one French account and one British account.

A listing from Italy
  1. Your filter's zonesPasses
Italy is in West Europe: shown.
  2. Your accountsPasses
The French account can buy from Italy, the British one cannot: Kops picks the French one.
A listing from the United Kingdom
  1. Your filter's zonesPasses
    United Kingdom is ticked: shown.
  2. Your accountsPasses
Only the British account can buy from the United Kingdom: Kops picks it.

Take the French account away and the Italian listing still shows — but no account of yours can buy it, and autocop's attempt ends on No Compatible Account.

Vinted's limits between countries

Being allowed to buy from a country does not make every order from it go through. Between the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia, Vinted refuses two kinds of order at payment, and the attempt's detail shows its message:

  • An order above a ceiling — £134.99 for a British account: Currently, we don't allow orders from another country to cost more than £134.99.
  • Some types of item — video games and Tonies among them: Items of this type can't be purchased from another country.

If you buy from the United States or Australia with a British account, keep the filter's maximum price under that ceiling, with room for shipping and fees. A delivery from another country also costs more and takes longer than a local one.

When no account can buy

When none of your accounts is from a country that can buy from the seller's, nothing is bought and nothing is charged:

  • Autocop records an attempt that ends on No Compatible Account — one per zone, not one per listing: the same refusal is not recorded again until two hours pass without one. Add an account from a country that can buy from the seller's — the tables above —, or untick the zone on the filter.
  • A tap on Buy opens the account picker instead, as holding the button does. It lists every account, whatever its country: pick one whose country can buy from the seller's. The picker does not check it for you, and Vinted does not sell to the others — the attempt fails.

A folder bound to an account group only draws from that group: the account that can buy must be in it, or the attempt ends on No Account in Group.
